Lesson Overview

In the world today, and throughout history, suffering and evil are and have been a constant daily experience. In protest, many have wondered why a good and all-powerful God would allow atrocities to exist. If God exists, why doesn’t He stop them? Without minimizing the hardships of those who suffer, this lesson will seek to define what evil is and offer an explanation as to why God allows suffering to continue in the world.

Lesson Objectives

When you complete this lesson, you should be able to do the following:

  • Explore answers to why evil exists
  • Understand why some evil actions have been associated with the church
Personal Reflection

As you proceed through this lesson have the following question in mind.
Have you ever been asked the question, “If God is good, why does He allow suffering in the world?” If so, how did you respond?
