The restoration period should have given everyone reason for rejoicing. After all, it was by a miracle that God led His people back home after 70 years in captivity. 

But all that was promised in the name of return and restoration came in stages. The temple was rebuilt, but it was quite modest compared to Solomon’s Temple. Legitimate leadership was hard to come by. And the spiritual condition was hardly what Jeremiah and Ezekiel had predicted.

Let’s make our way to the final books in our Old Testament to see how these prophets preached the need for reform while enriching the biblical vision of a new covenant yet to come.
