It impresses me because when we think about having access to the creator of the universe it blows me away…the shear audacity that we can approach His throne of grace with confidence is miraculous and overwhelming…haveing two way communication with our heavenly father is the greatest gift we could be given
Bible reading is God speaking to us, prayer is us speaking to God. Also a great reminder to be still and listen to God during prayer as well.
I want to talk to God and I want Him to talk to me, especially during seasons of my life that are challenging. I must remember that God speaks to me through His word. Therefore I must seek Him there.
I often pray Jeremiah 33:3, asking Holy Spirit to show me what I’ve never known before. I do this because I need help interpreting the scriptures!
Just like in a relationship, you can’t simply take, take, take. Relationships are a 2-way street of give and take. We need to be in God’s word, receiving what God is telling us through his Word, as well as pray and tell God what is on our hearts and minds.
It’s two very different ways of communicating. Reading a letter gives us a time to think and digest. Praying gives us time to petition and cry out as well as worship
We need to take time to be still and listen. Listen for what God is telling us and how He is guiding us. We talk to God and share our feelings, concerns, joys and sorrows. We then need to just be still and listen for His answers. Apply what you read in your prayers and ask for understanding. Listen for the answer.
In the professor’s presentation, the attention he advocated that is to be paid to the Word of God–and the work of God, already experienced and accomplished that stirred thanksgiving and openness–gives an appealing vision of what prayer can be.
We must have two way communication between us and God if we are to allow the Holy Spirit to open up the mysteries of God’s Word to us.
I use Turning Points as my devotional book but now I see I must pray about its meaning more and let God lead me .
I use Our Daily Bread devotional to start my day. The part I most enjoy was the question on what part of my life does the lesson could be applied. Answering it helps me to remember it and be watchful for experiences to make it real for me. Finally at end of day, I recap it by giving thanks for the lessons and the challenged it has brought me .
This lesson really changed the way I looked at my Bible reading. Often times I would just read and pray as though I am finised with my to do task. Now it’s really more about getting to know His truth on a deep level.
It impressed me because we tend to think of prayer and Bible reading as a thing that WE do and that God expects of us. However, it is through Gods word and spirit that He can speak to us and work in us. It is helpful to know that God is always right there with us in our prayer and it is not something that we are along in doing. The Lord is with us and knows the condition of our hearts.
This is so key because if we pray a lot, but don’t listen, we aren’t growing in our knowledge of God and His ways. If we study a lot but don’t pray we often are trying to grow in the flesh instead of the power of the Holy Spirit. This will lead to discouragement and failure.
This is so important. If I only talked to my husband and never listened, we would not have a very good relationship. It is same with our relationship with God.
The fact that the Lord of Heaven and earth would want to commune and speak to ME is unfathomably amazing! God is still speaking
Prayer is when we can express our hearts and minds to God. Bible reading is when we can clearly hear God’s heart.
If we’re too busy doing all the talking, we don’t allow ourselves any time to listen to what God has to say.
A great reminder of how our relationship with God is two-way. Not only do we get to speak to Him / take our requests to Him, but we also get to listen and hear Him.
did not realize that sometimes person needs just stay quiet and read Bible to receive answers from God
How did the principal prayer and reading of the word impress me while because that is what we do to communicate with the Lord why because that what he says in his word is to meditate on this scripture day and night.
It’s simply a miracle and the grace of God that He would bother to speak to us AND that he would give us a way to speak to Him back
I loved the principle of two way communication and the illustration that was given in the lesson because it really speaks to the heart of how we are in relationship with the Lord. It is not one way or one sided, but we have communication. God speaks to us through His scriptures and we get to respond to him and communicate to him through prayer.
I am so grateful that God speaks through his word, and we don’t have to wonder about who he is. We can know him through his word.
It focuses on being a true relationship in a way that we can understand.
It is not communication if it is not two-way. I study and pray to communicate with Jesus.
It’s just a reminder that it’s not all about us and it’s a way to communicate and hear from our Lord.
It didn’t seem all that impressive to me, but rather standard in my understanding of God. We speak our imperfect words to him while he has shared his living, breathing perfect word with us.
It emphasizes the relationship rather than “what can you do for me?”
It was a reminder that we are seeking to know God more and engage with Him rather than just check it off
It impressed me and reminded me that daily quite time is to focus on knowing God first and then making our requests known.
We are also to give praying for others a high priority.
I have been doing this for years. When we read the Bible to ENGAGE rather than to consume, then God really shows up. Praying Scripture helps me connect to the heart of God!
Bible reading prepares your heart for prayer. A lot of times when we don’t know what or how to pray we can look to scripture to find instruction and inspiration.
It is my experience, reading the Bible and then praying through scripture opens your mind to hear the Holy Spirit more clearly.
God was so good that He gave His word to us in Bible and by reading and getting to knwo him and also a prayer we can communicate wth Him and love Him
It’s always been something on my mind that we pray for what we want or to give thanks quickly because we are relieved. I think to intentionally listen and ask what He wants to share with me needs to be more deliberate in my time with Him.
Through prayer we can speak to God and through scriptures,God can speak to us
Through prayer I can commune to Him on a one to one basis and I feel He is listening to me. I can express my joy, struggles, praise and sins. God is listening to me. while Bible reading God is talking to me directly and I listen.
I think listening to God and not just bringing our requests before him is very powerful. It is a two way dialogue.
Actually I have to say I never thought my respose to the scripture could be a prayer,,,or at least not om any level when I do pray
Jesus says, He who has ears to hear let him hear. I believe we are called to listen for the voice of God through His WOrd, the Bible and yield to what He shows us to do.
Jesus was always saying, “He who has ears to hear, let Him hear?” Prayer is more about listening then speaking. God gave us 2 ears, but only one mouth.
For me listening is important whether I’m reading scripture or praying. I am not interested in circling myself. My desire is to hear from the Father and to have a heart cultivated to follow Him.
I truly never looked at this in this way before. I thought pray was the path of communication because we present God with our desires and He answers. I guess I never thought about reading His word a a means of communication from God. This opens my eyes to why I never felt I would receive a “Yes” from God.
They offer a challenge to me to look at my relationship with god and where I need to be at with it. Why? because this has been major point of struggle in the past
Because a healthy relationship entails two-way communication; hence both hearing from God via the scriptures and speaking to God via prayers are invaluable to my Christian walk.
The idea that our prayer should reflect what God just revealed to us, probably shouldn’t be, but was an awesome way to communicate with God. The idea that prayer and Bible work together to be a conversation with God is great.
