The geography and history help to understand the New Testament because, it shows the sacrifice Paul makes by traveling all the places He travelled to spread the gospel. It also helps to understand why Paul speaks to His hearers the way He does, it also shows how strategic the places are that Paul visits and how they all lend in some way an advantage to spreading the gospel.
At a minimum, geography can show us the difficulty and potential dangers of travel during Paul’s day. As far as the history, it helps understand how and why Paul chose his topics when sharing the Gospel and the challenges he would have face with the cultures he engaged with.
