In 3 John we learned how to deal with someone teaching false doctrine. How do you respond to teachings that contradict Scripture?

First we would have to have the scriptural knowledge to actually know the truth and recognize false teaching. Which evidently the folks John is talking to do since he addresses them as faithful followers. John’s model is 1. Do not pulled into false teaching, 2 Encourage teachers that teach the truth, 3. confront false teachers,

False teachers exist in the teachings of the Bible at all times. Most of their teachings explain things that are difficult for us to understand easily. Therefore, people who are more interested and eager than anyone else in the Bible are deceived by false teachers. So I try to judge around the text of the Bible. And seek the teachings and understanding of the Holy Spirit.

We must not compromise God’s truths, but as we confront those teaching false doctrine we must do so in a way that exhibits love and speak the truth which is the Word of God.

I’ll compare the teachings with the word of God in the Bible and bring out the differences.

I use God’s Word and try to compare what Scripture says to what it being told.

I look to God’s Word to help me respond to teachings that contradict Scripture. I also bring it up in my devotional group so that we can all search in God’s word for the answer.

I filter all of my questions through Scripture, and if I’m confused I trust God for the outcome

Compare it with Scripture. If it doesn’t align, it’s false. That’s exactly what Jesus did in the desert.

We must always turn to scripture to identify false teaching – false teaching must be addressed in love.

I use my Bible to show them in love what the Bible really says about a subject. In fact I had someone ask me to give her a Bible reference so that she can confront a false teaching

I use Scripture to show where and how that teaching contradicts Scripture. When we are confronting false teachings we cannot do it in a combative way but in love.

In the past, more so than now, I would argue against false teachings without responding in love. As I grow in the Lord, I am trying not to just point out the errors through aggressive behavior without love but rather share the “truth in love”.

If I come across a teaching that I believe contradicts scripture, then I will use the Bible to confirm whether the teaching is indeed false doctrine. The Bible is the ultimate guide and reference. The Bible will either confirm or reject teachings based on scripture. All scripture from the Bible is sound and true because it comes from God himself. If I come across a teaching that is not scripturally sound, then I will not apply it’s lessons to my life nor will I promote it to the world.

We must always scrutinize any message we hear with the word of God. We as humans are fallible. God is not. His word is truth. We also need to make sure that we are not taking verses out of context with the meaning of the scripture.

By first asking the Holy Spirit to give me the wisdom to confront that individual with true doctrine by quoting the Word.

I find the truth about what is written and share how what is being taught is not what was written in scripture

How do you respond to teachings that contradict scripture?
As I think about the truth of the word of God. I asked myself, “How can I identify the truth and separate the lie?” But, how do I respond to teachings that contradict scripture? I would first check my heart for a self-control alert. Then, I would search the truth by double check the scripture to make sure contradiction took place. If so, I would let God be the judge.

I usually listen and ask questions regarding why they believe what they do, and then I share what I believe.

You know what you know to be true. If you feel comfortable you minister to them but if you do not, you pray for them.

I have always been very shy. In the past, I would simply listen and then walk away. Now, I do believe that I could loving discuss the Scripture.
