The empires of the Fertile Crescent saw an opportunity to engage in wider and more efficient trade between Africa, Asia and Europe, and they say the chance to fatten their purses through tariffs placed on traders, which they would use to improve their military arsenal and strategy-a prerequisite for taking over more territory.

It was a way of controlling travel between Asia, Africa and Europe and it also had value in that whoever controlled this area could collect tariffs and taxes from the merchants traveling through this area.

The Promised Land grew into an international highway that connected all the major empires of the time. It became a flourishing epicenter for merchants conducting business and trading their goods. Empires repeatedly fought over the right to control the land and collect the taxes which they used to improve their armed forces and dominate their neighboring empires.

It was part of the “International Highway” that provided safe travel amongst the empires of the Fertile Crescent. As merchants, militaries and others used this path, leaders realized just how valuable the Promised Land was. Empires began to send their militaries in to fight for the rights to claim the Promised Land. Each wanted to claim the Promise Land, in order, to impose tariffs on travels moving through Israel.

Israel was the place one could use to control the travelling, to tax the merchants, and a center of convenient communication to the world. It also had a natural easy to defend landscape against enemies.

Because it is travel-friendly land, merchants are moving their goods through this land. However, this has presented an opportunity for the emperors to collect taxes from the merchants. The empires fought, again and again, to gain control of this area so that they can control the tax collection. With the tax collected, they can improve or enhance their military technology to exercise dominion control over the Promised Land.
