Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy man that gave Jesus a tomb, helped wrap the body and placed a stone to close tomb. He would be a key witness as to what happened ie grave cloths.

He was a relative of Mary’s. He asked for and received the body of Jesus and had him entombed in one of his family tombs. His role is that he would not have gone through the trouble of gaining access to the body if there were no body.

Joseph of Arimathea was a member of the Sanhedrin, but he was opposed to the decision to crucify Jesus. Joseph asked Pilate for Jesus’ body to be taken for burial in his tomb. Joseph knew that Jesus’ body was prepared for burial and buried in his tomb. He was an actual witness to Jesus’ body being laid in the tomb and the the stone being placed in front of the tomb.

Joseph was a religious leader. Joseph asked for Jesus body and laid Jesus body in the tomb he had purchased for himself. He himself would have known Jesus died when he carried Jesus body. He himself was witness to laying Jesus in the tomb and the tomb being sealed.
