Because people usually cannot handle the power and responsibility of being a leader by appointment. Ego and power become hinderances and people are not naturally humble. People equated leaders with power, position and authority. Jesus had to show them how to put others first and their best interests over their own to allow them to reach their full potential.

Because He had to show them the difference in true and effective leadership in contrast to what they knew about leadership.

Jesus had to model servant leadership so both we and the disciples would grasp that it’s not about entitlement but about a process of leading others to fulfill a common goal while becoming a better person in the process while serving and leading.

Because it was a new concept for that time. It was a kingdom message, relevant and necessary.

Jesus modeled servant leadership to teach us the importance of serving others as a leader rather than having the expectation of being served by those below is in rank or class.

Jesus had to model servant leadership to set the example. Jesus wanted His followers to understand the importance of being a servant leader so He showed them. He led by example so they could see it. People are so used to being controlled by those in authority, Jesus had to show them a better way.

Jesus main motivation was the love of His people and for those who follow Him but He also modeled sacrificial leadership to the world under Gods will and His life was a sacrifice for everyone out of his service for others exemplifying Servant leadership for the world.

Because in our own human nature we naturally would not serve the other. We have to learn from Jesus, empowered by the Spirit.

Jesus modeled humility although He operated in authority and was revered by His followers. Just as the sons of Zebedee, James & John wanted a special position they learned that it required a greater service.

Jesus was not sent only to redeem our sins and connect us back to our Father, but he was also sent as a perfect example of who we were created to be – God fearing, loving honoring human beings.

Jesus modeling servant leadership helps his followers know what’s being asked of them when he says to take up your cross.

It’s not what his disciples were familiar with in their experiences with leaders. i.e. the Romans, the Pharisees

Jesus had to model it because the disciples had never actually seen servant leadership. They were familiar with management and rulership. They knew leaders that lorded over others for their own gain, not leaders that developed others for the others gain.

To show them what it looks like and to show he is a leader as well.

Not only did He need to show us and set an example for us of how the lead, but it’s also a reminder that we can’t do servant leadership without Him. It’s a supernatural way of leadership that only Christ modeled perfectly. Therefore, we need Christ to exercise servant leadership too.

He needed to show US how to love and serve others. He is the ultimate example (Phil. 2:5-11).

It goes against our very nature and he had to show us what it looked like.

Jesus had to model servant leadership so that we can see and understand that it can be done. Another reason is to show how impactful it can be when done correctly.

Jesus didn’t have to choose servant leadership, but rather he created it and had it in his mind before the creation of the earth for it to be the model of leadership. Simply because the God head submits to each other and is in unity and authority. We are to model God not just in character of how we lead but as well as the dynamics within relationship to God and one another.

It is essential to discipleship. You have to see something modeled before the teacher can sit back and watch you do it. I now know how to lead because I have seen it done.

I think that Jesus had to model servant leadership because we had to see it for ourselves. We assumed by being alpha to the team we are just to command and direct rather than be part of the work. Therefore, Jesus modeled it for us and scolded the law leaders for being wrong.

Because it’s one of the purpose he came to earth. Make all things new since the impact of sin that’s corrupt how people think about leadership . He becomes an example also the savior , servant.
