In this course, you will learn what it means to have a biblically integrated curriculum and why biblical integration is essential to a meaningful Christian education. You will explore how a biblical worldview serves as the foundation for a biblically integrated curriculum, and you will learn about various curriculum orientations and how they can be applied in light of a biblical worldview. You will also discover practical ways to create a biblically integrated curriculum.

  • Explain the pivotal role a biblical worldview plays in Christian education and how it should influence your curriculum.
  • Discuss the importance of a curriculum that is biblically integrated in every facet, beginning with the overall curriculum plan, moving to the unit plans, and working all the way down to individual assignments.
  • Describe traditional, process/mastery, and constructivist curriculum orientations; and identify ways educators can pull positive ideas consistent with a biblical worldview from each.
  • Explain why intentional curriculum planning tasks are essential, and utilize specific techniques to create biblically integrated units and lesson plans.
  • Create biblically integrated assignments and assessments.
  • I appreciate the fact that the instructor explains the information in a manner that is easily understood. I haven't been to college in 30+ years, and was a bit anxious. However, I found myself actually enjoying the lectures and am coming away from the course with a wealth of information that is applicable to teaching in a Christian school.

  • Very well done. Real world examples that were tied in helped further my understanding.

    — Catie, United States (US)
  • Excellent courses, amazed by the clarity and wisdom presented throughout the lessons.

    — Christtian, United States (US)
  • Taking this course helped me to rethink the importance of Christian Education and Biblical Integration to the students, the family, the Church, to our nation and to the world. If we do not teach the next generation God's Word and truth, who will?

    — Laura, United States (US)
  • The course was well put together. I gained knowledge of how the Christian classroom should run on a daily basis. I have always showed concern for my students and did my best to model a Christian lifestyle, but when I listened to the instructor talk about biblical integration, I felt that I wasn't doing all that I could to properly prepare my students for a spiritual life after graduation. I will definitely use the advise and suggestions given to be a better teacher to my students and a better staff member to my organization. I really appreciated this lesson.

    — Rebecca, United States (US)
  • Amazing course! Thank you for helping me understand how to integrate the Bible into my lessons and what counts as integration and what does not.

    — Amy, United States (US)
  • I really enjoyed the lectures in the course. I feel like I learned a lot and was reminded of some good things I already knew. I think Dr. Black is a great speaker who has amazing empathy, compassion, and encourages a necessary "call to arms" for Christian admin and educators alike.

    — Jolean, United States (US)
  • This was an excellent course. It was very edifying but it was also a great tool for understanding how biblical integration is done and how to implement it in the lessons we teach. The resources and examples of the lesson plans are really helpful, specifically when you are new to biblical integration.

    — Natalia, United States (US)
  • I appreciate the structure of the modules with the overview, lecture (particularly having the transcript available to follow along and make notes, journal questions, and then the assessment. Dr. Black's delivery was excellent. I often felt not only informed but also encouraged after hearing her presentation of each unit - the amount of time she took to "teach" was just right, and I also enjoyed her sharing her personal experiences of attending the Delaware County Christian School. Often very endearing.

    — Shelley, United States (US)
  • Great course to introduce new teachers to the differences between secular and biblically focused education. Thanks!

    — Matthew, United States (US)
  • Although much of what was taught I already knew, I still appreciate the effort into making sure teachers think about how to integrate the Bible into our classrooms on a daily basis.

    — David, United States (US)
  • Good material. Good speaker. It challenges us to improve our teaching methods, and reminds us to include God and christian principles into our curriculum.

    — Mari, United States (US)
  • Even as a Bible teacher who discusses the Word of God as an academic textbook, this course was incredibly helpful. It served as an encouragement to help continue improving and to develop greater intentionality when it comes to Biblical Integration.

    — Caleb, United States (US)
  • I found this course very helpful in sharpening my understanding of what a Christian philosophy of education is, as well as how to integrate the Bible into my units and lessons.

    — Sara, United States (US)
  • I did enjoy this course, although I feel the quizzes were often on things implied in the lesson and not actually taught. It stimulated my thinking and was challenging, but some questions I had no idea where the information was coming from.

    — Lindsey, United States (US)
  • The structure of the course made it easy to know what is expected. Quizzes sometimes didn't take much understanding of course material but more a knowledge of how to take tests.

    — Karen, United States (US)
  • Great food for thought and practice!

    — Jasmine, Canada
  • I’m disappointed in the course. The first seven lessons are more Systematic Theology 101 than the nuances of biblical integration. The course documents and lectures are not structured well and the delivery could be improved. Much of the rhetoric promotes fear and positions Christian educators as under attack or condemning the secular world. This approach might have some veracity to it but it avoids the nuance of reality and does not take a mature approach of redeeming what is around us for the Kingdom.

    — Daniel, United States (US)
  • This course has encouraged me to go further and deeper in the Word of God, so I could be more effective in my course.

    — Letitia, United States (US)
  • I am truly grateful for the privilege of taking this course. It has opened my eyes to my main purpose as an educator. I will be working on ensuring biblical integration is the main focus of my lessons from now on.

    — Ivy, United States (US)
  • Some questions were worded in a confusing way. The George Knight book was incredibly helpful to me! I really enjoyed how accessible it was for such a deep topic.

    — Katherine, United States (US)
  • I want to thank Dr. Black and the entire media crew of ODB university for making this program go well and to thank God for helping us get through it. God blessings!

    — Onyedinma johnson, Oman
  • Dr. Black is well-versed in every lesson throughout these courses. She made the course interesting by using real world examples from her career and/or family. Thank you!

    — Angela, United States (US)
  • I really enjoyed this course and would like to take more courses from Dr. Black.

    — Sheri, United States (US)
  • I think the lectures had good information, but Dr. Black often went off on tangents that didn't support the ideas presented in that topic. They were just nice anecdotes that didn't seem to follow a plan. I would appreciate more structure.

    — Sandra, United States (US)
  • I loved this course. I am not currently teaching in a Christian school so I would have loved to hear a little on how I could integrate biblical values and principles into my lessons anyway.

    — Amanda, United States (US)
  • Great information to share with others

    — Tarsis, United States (US)
  • Lesson 9 was not really clear.

    — Jenneane, United States (US)
  • I think I got more out of the Christian Philosophy of Education course. This follow up was ok but I think my school has hit on this topic quite a bit and so it wasn't new material. The last few lessons seemed to resonate with me more, while the first lessons just seemed like topics I've discussed and heard lectures on often.

    — Albany, United States (US)
  • I dreaded taking this course as I have not been a student for many years, and I was terrified. What I learned was I really enjoyed being in the student role again. It gave me a better understanding of what my students may be feeling. It also helped me to better understand how I can grow as a teacher. When I took these courses the first time in college, I was a mere 18–19-year-old student. Now as a 40+ year old I have so much more perspective and have a greater understanding of how my philosophy of education and how including biblically integrated lessons impact my teaching. Thank you for creating this tool to help improve us educators.

    — Kimberly, United States (US)
  • I love the set up of this course. I like that each lesson was set up the same way. I love to be able to look at the transcripts in addition to the lectures, as I am a visual learner rather than an auditory one. The lectures were interesting and just the right length.

    — Rachel, United States (US)
  • I have really enjoyed this course and would highly recommend it.

    — Rachel, United States (US)
  • Thank you for making this course available. The layout, design, and structure made covering biblical integration achievable, inspiring, and even refreshing.

    — Faith, United States (US)
  • I thought the courses were inspiring, fair, and well planned!

    — Kimberly, United States (US)
  • I have learned so much from Dr. Black and the book "Truth Weaving." I came into our Christmas break burnt out, but the lessons and readings have helped me refocus on what the true purpose of Christian education is: "to enable [my students] to develop a biblical vision of life that will guide them to think and act for God's glory and their own abundant living." (from "Truth Weaving" by D. P. Johnson) I cannot wait to begin planning out biblically integrated lessons and encouraging my students to seek the truth found in God's Word, even in math class!

    — Anna, United States (US)
  • This is a great place to begin in thinking about how Scripture informs our curricular goals as educators.

    — Aaron, United States (US)
  • Interesting review of concepts.

    — Daniel, United States (US)
  • Great course. I am going to try to implement the guiding questions we learned in lesson 11 and integrate more biblical strategies.

    — Manuel, United States (US)
  • Excellent, thank-you!

    — Shimea, United States (US)
  • Thank you so much! I've learned so much about biblical integration and Christian philosophy of education. I can't wait to put it to use in course.

    — Sandy, United States (US)
  • I really enjoyed this course and feel I learned a lot.

    — Heidi, United States (US)
  • I understand the necessity of taking this course for ACSI certification. It is helpful to have each teacher who has that certification to have had consistent teaching on this subject. I just feel as if I am not quite equipped from the lectures or the reading to do this well. I realize this will take time to develop. I think it would be more helpful to walk us through the actual planning of a unit or lesson that is biblically integrated so we at least have an idea of where to begin.

    — Pamela, United States (US)
  • This course was different than I thought it would be. It dealt a lot with the philosophy behind biblical integration. It was very valuable.

    — Jane, United States (US)
  • The course was great. It was easy to complete and convenient since I didn't have to borrow DVDs from my school administrator to complete the course.

    — Joan, United States (US)
  • Overall, this course was good. I do wish the course could be done in groups so that there is some interaction. Although I can read others comments, it would be helpful to dialogue with others more. Also, I am in-between schools right now. I am not sure how I will complete this without a supervisor observing me teach when I may not even be teaching next semester. I wish this was clearly stated before I registered for this course.

    — Lori, United States (US)
  • Thank you for helping me to further integrate God's truth into my lesson plans.

    — Emily, United States (US)
  • Thank you Dr. Black for sharing your knowledge and love for biblical integration. Your heart shown through during the lectures, causing your audience to be encouraged in walking out our faith as educators.

    — Marcia, United States (US)
  • This course was a great way to fulfill the needed requirements for ACSI certification. While I could have watched a video and read a book on my own, this course actually helped me improve my practice, and gave me important guidance. I also liked the pacing of the course- each section was appropriate in length and assignment.

    — Megan, United States (US)
  • I really enjoyed the focus on how to integrate the Bible and the importance of being intentional to study the Word of God yourself. I love the teacher's prayerful heart and a reminder to pray that the Holy Spirit would be at work in the classroom.

    — Courtney, United States (US)
  • I really liked Dr. Ellen Lowrie and believe she is invested in the spiritual well-being of our children and the next generation. Her lessons were clear and inspired. I think God is doing a mighty work through her to insure students will learn Biblical principles to guide every aspect of their lives. I think her assessment of the public education system was accurate. I like how we could work at our own pace, think about what we've learned, and apply the knowledge to our own scope and sequence, units and lessons.
