In this second lesson, we’ll discuss the nature of calling, what it entails, and how it can show up in a variety of ways. Dr. Angie Ward highlights biblical examples of calling and notes the distinct biblical pattern of preparation, discernment, and response.

We’ll look at the beginning of the calling process and discuss what to do with the season of preparation that God might be leading you through.

Lesson Objectives

When you complete this lesson, you should be able to do the following:

  • Describe the basic characteristics and possible natures of calling.
  • Provide examples of what calling looked like in people’s lives throughout Scripture.
  • Describe the different ways in which God communicated calling to people throughout Scripture.
  • Identify the biblical pattern of calling.
  • Describe the first phase of the calling process—preparation—and what that might look like in someone’s life.
  • Identify specific ways you can ready yourself for God’s calling during the season of preparation.
