Before this very global introduction of Genesis comes to a close, there’s a famous but peculiar story about the Tower of Babel. What is this story really about? The origin of different languages? The enduring human drive to make “a name for ourselves”? Why does it matter that the people of Babel were “scattered”? And why does this story continue with the genealogy of Seth and lead us to Abram? Is there a larger storyline, a story behind the story?

To answer these questions, our exploration will begin with a climb up the “ziggurats” of ancient Mesopotamia and end with a trip to the very last pages of Revelation.

Let’s see why Genesis 1–11 turns out to be our introduction to the whole Bible.
