The changes in the Israelites’ situation from the final chapters of Genesis through Exodus 1 is a subplot to the larger story of this people. However, that short period in the story has its own distinct subplot. Using a piece of paper, chart out a basic story arc of this period from the end of Genesis to the beginning of Exodus. Return to the previous exercise if needed to review how to chart a story arc. Mark some of the key shifts in plot with phrases, Bible verses or small symbolic drawings.

  1. What kind of basic story arc type does this short subplot (end of Genesis through Exodus 1) follow? (Refer to the Story Arc presentation if needed.)
