In Front | Two Approaches to the Law, Part 1

While Paul is quick to point out the dangers of misusing the Law, he insists that it continues to have value in the lives of believers. Every branch of Christian tradition has continued to affirm the value of the Law in one way or another. While we don’t have time to explore every tradition, we’ll consider Reformed and Lutheran approaches to the Law. Both traditions tend to divide their treatments of the Law into three categories.

We’ll look first at the Lutheran approach. Lutherans believe the Law is there to 1) curb human wickedness, 2) mirror our sinful behavior and show us our need for a savior and 3) guide us in our moral lives.
