The idea that obedience is linked to freedom can be a difficult idea to come to terms with, but it’s central to Paul’s view of the Christian life. True bondage is slavery to sin and the wicked desires that prevent us from becoming the people God has created us to be.

  1. In what ways has modern culture mistaken slavery for freedom?
  1. Can you give examples when people use the language of “freedom” and “liberty” in ways that are really disguising their slavery to sin?
  1. Are there ways in which you have done this personally? Describe in your workbook.
