“Exhortation” might sound like a “King James” word to some of you. It’s worth brushing it off if you don’t use it much. We’re going to get at the heart of Hebrews by looking at the purpose for all of its rich theology. This book isn’t primarily a theological essay. It’s a sermon meant to move people to a place of security in their faith by exhortation.

But there are some passages in Hebrews that suggest we don’t have security. So, let’s make our way through the book with an eye on what the author wants to accomplish and how.
