Persecution was part of the early church experience from its very beginning. And we just learned that it has been every bit as intense in the last century as the first. Are you surprised that Hebrews had so much theology for people in such drastic circumstances?

We’ve discovered time and again that the deep theology of the New Testament letters was meant to have a very practical benefit for believers. To see suffering as a badge of honor, and to see shame as a form of glory requires a perspective that taps deep into the Hebrew Scriptures.

In the next several courses we will continue to provide exhortation to sojourners in suffering.

First stop: James and John.
