We’ve actually gotten more clarity now on what is clear and certain in Revelation. It’s about God. About His control over His world. About His intent to bring justice to all evil and to do that in public. And it’s about Christ and His unique role in redemption. About His cosmic rule with those who suffer for Him.

And all that rich theology makes it all the more obvious how Revelation could encourage Christians being persecuted in the first century. Rome was not the ultimate power, and death was not the end of life and history. That is an encouragement to all Christians throughout all history.
