  1. In the last lecture we discussed “hermeneutics of advocacy.” What do we mean by this term? Offer a definition in one sentence.
Hermeneutics of Advocacy

We mean readings of the Bible that are more about promoting certain cultural viewpoints than they are about hearing the Bible on its own terms. When we approach the Bible with an agenda that dictates what we find there and leads us to judge the Bible by non-biblical standards, we’re applying a “hermeneutic of advocacy.” In this case, rather than being enlightened by the Bible, we’re using it for our personal agendas.
