In this graphic, note how “Bible-friendly” drew the most responses—by a considerable margin—in a national telephone poll, while the other three responses—engaged, neutral and skeptic—all polled between 19 and 23 percent.

After several years of relatively consistent Bible engagement, the percentage of Americans who never engage with the Bible recently jumped to 32 percent, or about one-third of the population. This may reflect an increasing secularization of American society.
