Ezekiel and Daniel: Babylonian Crisis

While the Judeans faced unimaginable suffering, they were asking unthinkable questions about the future of their king, their temple, their homeland, their covenant, their very identity.

As brutal as Babylon was, their empire was relatively short-lived. And that’s something helpful to keep in mind as we go through the prophets of this period. Babylon will take its turn enjoying temporary prominence on the world stage, only to become a casualty of its successor. And that’s because there was another sovereign over all of them.

In retrospect, the experience of exile became the crucible for God’s people to hear once again who the real King of the Cosmos is. These books also provide some of the most breathtaking descriptions of God’s plans for His people when it’s time to return to Him.
