This paints a picture for them and helps them see where in the next 24 hours this connects to their lives and who they are. It’s useful in preparation because you want to connect what you are saying with your audiences real life, this connection for the speaker is key for better understanding and sharing with the audience as well.

Why do you think you feel that way?I don’t mind public speaking as a whole if I am prepared and well practiced. I don’t like unprepared public speaking even if it’s sharing your name and something about yourself. My big fear or concerned is to not know where I myself am going in speaking or leading a conversation/topic. If I don’t know where I seem to be leading then the audience really won’t know or understand well.

Yes, I think this shapes our individualistic western approach into more wholistic and Jewish reading of scripture. All scripture is meditation literature and that is shaped better when we understand the above truth about what Scripture is and is not.

Which of these five do you believe has the greatest influence on you as you interpret a Bible passage? How does it help you when you interpret a passage? How does it hinder you?I think humility is the largest one I need to keep in mind. I have grown up reading the Bible and being taught things from the Bible all my life in church and christian school. I think this pre-assumption I have that I know the Bible well already, becomes a crutch where I then forget to pause and do needed interpretation steps before seeking to understand it. It can be helpful sometimes because I do come to a passage or book with more insight at times, but also still need to pause and use other steps of interpretation without rushing to a pre-made conclusion.
