The section on retirement. I’ve always wondered about the concept of retirement as it is a newer concept and seems to be quite unhealthy. I do think it is pretty interesting that the Bible allows for the idea of doing more of a teaching role in older age.

One of the challenges that spoke to me is the one about satisfaction where I am. I used to have a very unGodly mindset when it came to my job. It finally hit me after a couple years that He specifically wants me where I am! I had miraculous things happen that showed me exactly that He wants me here and now it is more clear why after many years of staying where He put me.

Everyone has strengths and the ability to work in the way God created… There are jobs that are considered ordinary silkworms and do not affect many people. However, God does not, but because everything of honest workers is valued and blessed by God. Be faithful to work and do the best you can in any role.

I feel the more honest we are the easier it gets to be honest the next time.

I schedule the tasks I need to do, wake up early to do tasks that can be handled via the internet, phone and at home…
I arrive at work at the scheduled time and return home, reducing all unimportant appointments

I do not take my work home with me. I keep a clear separation between the two. This allows me to fully focus all of my attention and efforts on home matters when at home and work matters while at work. For a long time, I made the mistake of bringing my work home with me whether physically or emotionally, and it began to slowly consume me. I failed to focus on my kids in the way that I should. So lesson learned and I no longer intermingle or overlap the two. That doesn’t mean that I don’t talk about one or the other while outside their respective confines, but I now just make mention of it an move on and refocus on the matters at hand. Drawing clear boundaries is essential to a home and work balance.

I have been retired for several years now, but want to get back to some part-time work.

Coming to work every day is easy but coming to work on time is a weakness for me.

Honesty, praying for co-workers and being faithful in job duties are not a problem working for the Lord. But sometimes honoring those in authority can be challenging when they are not leading with integrity.

The most challenging thing about raising children would have to be helping them understand that God loves them and wants to have a personal relationship with them.
