To know our God, who He is, what He accomplished for us and the Israelites, it is the basis of our understanding of Christianity.

To truly have the complete picture of who God is, we must study and understand the OT.

Similar constructing a building, the Old Testament is the foundation to understanding the Word of God, the character of God, His nature and love for mankind, and His plans for redemption. Having a strong foundation and understanding of the Old, helps us to better grasp what is going on in the New Testament.

To truly understand the sacrifice of Christ, one must understand the OT.

We would not understand WHY Jesus died on the cross in its fullness.

A lack of knowledge as to the beginning and the foundation of Christian faith would lead to a unclear understanding of the New Testament and the messages within.

I like the analogy provided earlier: the New Testament is a cathedral and the Old Testament is the foundation on which that cathedral stands. It provides the context and basic understanding of who God is – his character, his intentions, his deeds, and his relationships/interactions with others.
