Christian Learning Center Forums Why would a lack of knowledge of the Old Testament weaken our understanding of the New Testament?

Similar constructing a building, the Old Testament is the foundation to understanding the Word of God, the character of God, His nature and love for mankind, and His plans for redemption. Having a strong foundation and understanding of the Old, helps us to better grasp what is going on in the New Testament.

A lack of knowledge as to the beginning and the foundation of Christian faith would lead to a unclear understanding of the New Testament and the messages within.

I like the analogy provided earlier: the New Testament is a cathedral and the Old Testament is the foundation on which that cathedral stands. It provides the context and basic understanding of who God is – his character, his intentions, his deeds, and his relationships/interactions with others.
