Here are some reasons to study the Old Testament:

    1. to learn about the big picture of who God is and what He has done

    2. to learn the about the characters in the Bible

    3. to learn about the conflicts in the Bible.

    4. to learn and understand that God is the ultimate author of the Bible, but His story is written in the Books of the Bible by many other authors.

To understand the full story of God’s plan for salvation and redemption. To see how Jesus is the center of all things, and has been since the beginning.

Foundation and precursor to the New Testament. To know who we are and more importantly, who God is. To know God’s character and the covenant He made with His people.

Because Jesus is the center of the whole narrative, and the fulfillment of all God’s promises. Without knowing the “first part” of the story, it’s impossible to understand how the plan unfolds and is complete in Christ.

All scripture is God breathed. In order to better understand the Trinity and especially the historical and present need we have for grace and mercy God provides through Jesus.

If we do not understand the foundation of our faith, we cannot have a complete understanding of our faith at all. We can know that Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, died a horrible death, and then came back to life 3 days later, but if we do not understand WHY He did all of that, we are missing the full picture of the Gospel.
