To understand why we are here (or purpose). To know and understand God, a loving and caring Father. To understand why men/women became disconnected and separated from our Creator. To understand that God had already put in place a remedy to save those who wanted to reunite and restore that relationship with Him (which is in and through Jesus Christ). The Old Testament is the biography our life.

It shows us our need for a savior and we see where our savior is already present in the OT.

Foundational. Belief that He put it there for a reason. God doesn’t do without purpose.

The Old Testament provides foundational insight into the history, teachings, and prophecies that shape the Christian faith. It offers a deep understanding of God’s character, His relationship with humanity, and the covenant with His people. Through its narratives, laws, poetry, and prophecies, readers can gain wisdom, moral guidance, and an appreciation of the unfolding plan for salvation that culminates in the New Testament. Reading the Old Testament helps to grasp the full context of Christian beliefs, enriching one’s spiritual journey and relationship with God.

The Old Testament reveals who God is. God doesnt change, he is the same from the days when the Old Testament was written as he is today. I love the Old Testament, it is exciting. Some of my favorite women of the Bible are in the Old Testament, Deborah, Jale, Ruth and Naomi, and Queen Esther. My life verse is Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Christian Learning Center Forums Why would a lack of knowledge of the Old Testament weaken our understanding of the New Testament?

It would only be half of the story. It would be the half of the story that the great part of the story was built upon. Like a sequel, the New Testament is great for our testimony but does not give credit to all of the things that led up to the miracles we see in it. The connectedness between the Old and New can be best described as God breathed.

Without the Old Testament, we would not understand or appreciate the New Testament as much. We need to know the history and significance of the foundation in which the Bible was written, so that we can have a faith in Christ.

The Old Testament shows us why we needed Jesus. It gives us proof of how flawed we are as humans. It also shows us who God is and reveals His character to us which is so important.

The Old Testament provides a backstory to the New Testament. Plus, the Old Testament is referenced in several places in the New Testament. It is also incredible to see how God remained the same and both Testaments. God’s character never changes. The Old Testament also contains prophesies of the birth of Jesus Christ and its fulfilled in the New Testament.

A lack of knowledge of the Old Testament weekends are understanding of the New Testament because the Old Testament is the foundation for which the New Testament rests upon and in order to understand the concept of Jesus Christ and what he actually did and what he actually accomplished you have to have the knowledgeable what’s going on in the Old Testament.
