Some of the reasons that one should study the Old Testatment are, the Scriptures were written for our learning, we get see how much God cared for the children of Israel. Study of the Old Testament links us to the New Testament. God in the Old Testament is the same God revealed in the New Testament.
-
One reason the Old Testament should be read is because it lays the foundation for the Bible. The Old Testament also teaches us about Jesus and without the Old Testament the New Testament wouldn’t make any sense and visa versa. The Old testament also teaches us how to be in our Christian faith and teaches us how to follow God’s rules. We also learn about who God is and what he desires in His people.
-
The Old Testament is the foundation of understanding the New Testament. It is the opening of God’s book, explains His character and is a record of His mighty deeds. Without knowing these things about God, there is no true foundation for our faith in Christ.
-
It is the foundation to everything. We need to build our foundation to have a strong relationship with God
-
Studying the Old Testament can help with getting to know who God is.

understand key Biblical teaching and the five major covenants with God. The OT tells of the constant battles people faced, and includes promises to be fulfilled that we read in the NT. God speaks to the fathers by the prophets, but in the NT He speaks to us through His Son

God is good for His word and it is important for us to understand that His timing is not ours and He gives us information in different ways. Part of our journey in life is learning to trust in God’s work. He does not tell us everything. We find ourselves waiting and trusting with some information but not all.
-
Without the OT, we would not have answers about Creation, Why Jesus? Why salvation? What is my purpose in the world? The OT gives us information to solve those questions so that we have understanding and not guessing.
-
If we have a lack of knowledge of the Old Testament, it does a disservice to the New Testament. the New Testament would not have a foundation to stand on. The New Testament would not make sense because it fulfills the Old Testament.

The NT goes off of the OT. By not having an understanding of the OT, it would cause clarification for anyone in the NT.
