This is what we need to have a better understanding of the coming of Jesus Christ.

I believe it shows us where we need to be spiritually with God. It shows us our beginning.
-
The story of God’s redemption plan starts in the very beginning of the Bible. Woven throughout the Old Testament are stories and prophecies that point towards the coming of Jesus Christ and the salvation of man through his blood sacrifice on the cross for the sins of the world.

It tells the “whole” story of creation with God’s promises that lead to His fulfillment of them. It’s the scaffolding of our faith.

We would lack a lot of context of NT writings because there are many references, themes, ideas, etc. that are rooted in OT writings and culture.
-
The New Testament would be difficult to understand without knowledge of the Old Testament. The Old Testament is the foundation for the New Testament. We need the story of creation. We need to know how evil came about. We need the prophecies.
-
Because the OT is foundation and we are unable to build or fully understand why Jesus came to redeem mankind.
-
The authors and people of the New Testament only knew the Old Testament. Their faith and character came from knowing the God of the OT and the laws He had given them. If the people of the NT followed and relied on writings of the OT, we, too, must be knowledgeable in those same scriptures. It is our foundation, as well! Without our knowledge of the OT, our foundation is weakened and likely to fall.

Together, both the Old and New Testaments reveal to us about who God is and how He interacts with mankind. Together they give us a fuller picture of the ways of God and plans for mankind.
