A lack of knowledge of the Old Testament would be like building a house upside down. The Old Testament is the foundational record of everything the Lord God does from creation and its fall to the redemptive work of Christ. Through the Old Testament, we repeatedly see how as humans we fall short of God’s greatness and goodness, how apart from him we are nothing and can truly do nothing. We see David, a man described as after God’s heart even falling short repeatedly winding all the way up to murder his friend and get his wife pregnant. The Old Testament shows us how much of a need for God we truly have, with the Old we cannot fully appreciate and understand the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross in the New. Without the Old we may be fooled into thinking that we can do things on our own.

Like the video said the old testament is a core foundation of understanding God and people. Without this understanding the magnificent truths brought forth in the new testament wouldn’t carry the weight they do without this understanding.

The Old Testament teaches us about God and his nature, and about people and their nature and their need for a Savior. Without understanding of the fundamental problem, knowledge of Jesus would not be needed.
