It is foundational to our faith because it is foundational to defining who God is
-
To understand who God is. His character, his language, his law, to fully know and understand him.
-
The Old Testament is the foundation that lays out the New. Meaning that without the Old the New would not mean anything because for their to be redemption and forgiveness there must before have been error and mistakes.
-
The Old Testament provides the essential groundwork for the entire Bible, helping to understand the New Testament more fully. It reveals important aspects of Jesus Christ, including prophecies about His coming and the significance of His ministry.
-
We can’t know who we really are without the OT, because without the OT we can’t know who God is, and since we are made in His image, we need to know (study the OT).

Because this tell us of how everything started. It will help us understand what God expects from us

A lack of knowledge of the OT would weaken our understanding of the NT because the OT foretells what the OT. Without understanding the OT laws, customs, and the lives of God’s chosen people; one would not understand why we needed Jesus to be the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of the world. The NT story talks about the life of Jesus who was the fulfillment of the law; He was the perfect sacrifice needed for us to be able to have the gift of salvation.

It would mean we are without all of the pointers to what we see in NT. I would miss his answered prophecies and evidence of how perfect He is in all aspects!
-
The New Testament uses a lot from the Old Testament. It would be harder to understand the New, without it. Knowledge of the New Testament would be incomplete without it, and understanding the overall picture of the Bible would be impossible.
-
Without understanding the foundation and beginnings of a story, we cannot understand the full implications of the fulfillment and completion of that story. It’s imperative that we study the OT so that we can grasp the fullness of who God is and what He accomplished through His Son. We will never understand the full beauty of the resurrection of Jesus in the NT and will maintain a weakened faith without digging deep into our studies of the OT.
