The OT creates a foundation for us to know who God is. As we read through the OT we can see how sin has separated God’s people and He continues to show us how to live our lives according to His commands. The OT sets the stage for redemption in the NT.

The Old Testament is the historical redemption and revelation of God and Creation. To know and study it is to help give us biblical lens of truth for the world today.
-
The Old Testament is not only a good foundation for learning it teaches of God and all the trials and tribulations of Gods people. Today we go through some of the same issues and knowing that God helped His people through their hard times gives us comfort for when we go through those trials.

A person should study the Old Testament to grow closer to God. A person should study the Old Testament to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the entire story of God plan for humanity. A person should study the Old Testament to grow personally in their understanding of God in their everyday life.

To understand how it fits all together. People, places, and concepts. How Jesus understood the law and the prophecy about himself.

The Bible is like a book series; there are two parts. If one doesn’t know what happed before Jesus came, the importance and signifiance of the resurrection, will not make sense.

Why would the lack of knowledge of the Old Testament Weaken my understanding of the New Testament? I will answer with an I instead of we.
I would not know what happened “In The Beginning.” The Old Testament introduces me to my God. The Old Testament tells stories about who he is, the books point to the coming messiah. I was prepared and wanting to know how God was going to reconcile me to Himself. Stories of imperfect people, just like me, who He uses to do His work. Proverbs is the book of wisdom that points to Gods ways and not our ways. The Old Testament makes it clear that I need a savior.
Without the Old Testament there would be no fulfillment of the prophesies, prophesies that I see fulfilled over and over again in the New Testament. Without the Old Testament why would I even need a New Testament?
The Old Testament is the Word Of God and the Word was flesh… Christ the Son of God. -
In some parts of the New Testament, you cannot understand it correctly without the information found in the Old Testament. Example would be the book of Hebrews, it is filled with references to the Old Testament. If you do not have knowledge of the Old Testament much of Hebrews would make no sense. So the large number of references to the Old Testament and dealing with topics that require a knowledge of the Old Testament, without that knowledge the New Testament cannot be properly understood

I feel like throughout the OT you get to learn of God and Christ and the redemptive plan that was always at work for us. So when you get to the NT you understand the need for our Savior. You understand the need for the gap to be bridged to bring us back into tight relation with God through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

It tells of the character of God and sets the foundation of our faith. It helps us know God.
