Christian Learning Center › Forums › At the beginning of this program we learned: “People have many reasons for rejecting the Christian faith. Some may admire Christ but dislike His followers. Others find it difficult to accept any faith that claims to be the only way to God. Why would anyone limit themselves to only one of the world’s great religions?” How valid are each of these objections? What is your response to each?

“Some may admire Christ but dislike His followers.”
This has always been an interesting rejection point for me. Looking at it from a secular view, do we stop admiring Michael Jordan because of unruly fans at the game? That would be absurd! Why then is it entertained as a viable rejection of faith in God? Choosing to follow Him does not require us to act as fools.“Others find it difficult to accept any faith that claims to be the only way to God.”

I have difficulty separating these two objections as they seem as restatements of the same point.
We are taught at a young age that there are many ways to accomplish our goals… some take the path that is winding and full of obstacles, others take the straight and narrow. Hearing that there is only one path to God can seem counter to this teaching. This is an objection that could use a refocus. When the goal is Jesus (because Jesus is God), then the path can take many turns and twists – it is why we each have our own unique stories of how we came to be in relationship with Christ. ____ Religion alone does not equal salvation. -
To those that admire Christ but dislike his followers: Focus on Christ, his example, his purpose. One cannot focus on his followers, because his followers are sinners at different levels of relationship with God.
To those who find it difficult to accept any faith that claims to be the only way to God: read the gospels, it will transform your view and understanding of who Christ is.
To those who find it absurd to limit themselves to only one of the word’s great religions: Christianity offers a growth in relationship with Christ. It is a personal journey that puts aside focus on man-made religion, and instead celebrates a closeness to Christ and God like no other. All of these objections are valid, and I value the questions that arise from them. I would urge all to insist on answers looking to God and Christ for them.

It is much easier to fall into the secular world than it is to follow Christ. Why? The secular world paints a beautiful picture in exactly the way we want to see it. Added to that, the world tells us to not trust anyone or anything. In order to believe in Christ and follow Him, we have to trust in Him. We have to trust He will take care of our needs. Just like today, it is easier to dislike someone because of what other people have said. Too many have never experienced Christ and His love… making it easier to believe what the world says about Him.

It is easy to fall into the secular world instead of researching and understanding the truth. The world teaches us to be cautious of trust. If we have difficulty trusting, it is not easy to have faith. Jesus was a good man that suffered and wanted to help others not suffer. When people heard his teaching they became faithful and followed him. The people that did not believe Jesus did not want to hear his teachings, instead they listened to what others said about Jesus. The proof is in all the miracles Jesus performed. His followers saw this proof and they believed.

Unfortunately people reject the Christian faith for many reasons. The church has been a perfect excuse to run away from religion or a relationship with God. Many point to the faults of the church or pastor as an excuse to not believe. They also deny the possibility that there is only one way to heaven. These are all invalid objections because one people are faulty and so they shouldn’t depend on people for their belief systems. In addition, one way to heaven isn’t a reason to have disbelief but if anything more reason to believe. If following any religion or god could enter you into heaven wouldn’t it all contradict itself. Jesus has done miraculous signs and wonders in public that have been witnessed by many to deny that this didn’t happen would go against many testimonies. Every time he did a miracle he would reveal more of his identity. He was the son of God, the one who can forgive sins, and give death or life. No other god or prophet has done this many miracles. It makes sense for him to be the only way.
