Jesus was going to be crucified. People were turning against Him and listening to others that wanted Him crucified. There was a trial and even though Pilate didn’t agree with the crowd, he listened, and Jesus was sent to be put to death on the cross.

The Crucifixions were happening that weekend. They had a great value. As an eyewittness testimony, they were able to recount exactly what happened and what the mood was like. It helps us to understand better what the followers of Jesus were experiencing.

Joseph was part of the Sanhedrin and most likely a follower of Jesus. He asked Pilate for Jesus’ body in order to place it in his family’s tomb. He knew that Jesus was truly dead as he was there at the burial. He also could provide witness testimony to the resurrection as he could prove that Jesus was no longer in his family’s tomb.
-
He was a member of the Sanhedrin. He gave Jesus his tomb again as foretold in Scripture. He would be able to Bear witness that the tomb was empty.
-
Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy man that gave Jesus a tomb, helped wrap the body and placed a stone to close tomb. He would be a key witness as to what happened ie grave cloths.
-
He was a relative of Mary’s. He asked for and received the body of Jesus and had him entombed in one of his family tombs. His role is that he would not have gone through the trouble of gaining access to the body if there were no body.

Joseph of Arimathea was a member of the Sanhedrin, but he was opposed to the decision to crucify Jesus. Joseph asked Pilate for Jesus’ body to be taken for burial in his tomb. Joseph knew that Jesus’ body was prepared for burial and buried in his tomb. He was an actual witness to Jesus’ body being laid in the tomb and the the stone being placed in front of the tomb.

The crowd in Jerusalem who had called for his crucifixion or were in the streets when he passed by and went to Golgotha to see the crucifixion. The guards who cast lots for his garment and were standing there while he died, witnessing the events and the earthquake. The guards who pierced his side and broke the legs of others. The religious leaders who had called for Jesus’ death. They would all certainly be able to speak to the fact that Jesus did die and was taken off the cross because he was dead to dispute any notion that he hadn’t really died. They had no reason to lie that Jesus hadn’t died…they wanted him dead.

The high priests , Roman guards, bunch of the Jewish people, I’m sure there were many more that we don’t know of.
-
Roman Guards witnessed Jesus death. Their testimony is valuable and ensures that He really did die and a watch set to guard the tomb.
-
The Roman soldiers were. They gambled for his cloak and they were the ones who had to make sure he was dead. They were masters of death and if they had released a prisoner who was still alive, they would have been put to death themselves. These witnesses unaffiliated with Christ are tough to refute.

The Roman soldiers and the Jews witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. Their testimony would have had great value because they witnessed it first hand as people who didn’t believe that Jesus was who He said He was. They would have had no reason to lie, so their testimony would have been of great value.
