What roles did the soldiers play at the cross? What did they do with Jesus’ garments? Why was this important?

Because of the Sabbath Day, the Jews requested that the death process be hurried. What request did they make? What happened when they came to Jesus? Why was it important that this was recorded?

Going Further

Read: Luke 24:13-27.

Which account is more difficult to believe: The account of Jesus’ death or the account of His resurrection? In your mind, what evidence is strongest for His resurrection?

Can you think of any Old Testament Scriptures that speak of what would happen to Christ after He came to earth? What are they?

Final Thoughts

Imagine that you were living in Jerusalem at the time Christ died and rose from the dead. What questions would you ask? How would you respond? Who would you tell? How about today? Are there questions to ask, responses to give, and people to tell?
