Christian Learning Center Forums During the video section Mart DeHaan interviewed people on the street in Tiberias. He asked them if they believed in miracles. He concluded: “I sensed in the residents of Tiberias that the ‘miracles’ they believed in would not have been as dramatic as someone turning water into wine or bringing a dead person back to life; yet according to the Gospel narratives, Jesus displayed an authority and power over nature that had no natural explanation.” What might be the basis for their personal convictions concerning miracles?

It was mentioned a little earlier on, the miracles that the people of Tiberias have experienced is not that law of nature changing experience. Instead it is in the small ways the non biblical miracles of regular life. Or the gentleman who didn’t believe in miracles, it was just based on factual information not what he could not see.

The basis of their personal convictions concerning miracles is going to be on a much smaller scale than the miracles of Jesus- the miracles we see or the things we witness and identify as miracles are not changing or altering the laws of nature-at least none of the miracles I have encountered have been that large, no dead man walking, no 2 fish turning into a meal for over 5000.
Our convictions of miracles are not supernatural and the things we see like child birth, and recovery from illness are things that happen in nature, the miracles of Jesus are not what we expect to see on a day to day bases.

I believe that according to our own life experiences and upbringings, we have a different view on miracles. I have not experienced anything as big as seeing someone come back from the dead or water turning into wine, but I do believe that miracles happen. My own experience is when I see many believers come together and pray with one purpose, much can come from it. I have seen sick people being healed without a medical explanation, and think that is our beliefs are what makes us see or not see miracles and the way we see them also. Miracles are happening around us on an everyday basis, is the matter of us deciding to see them and acknowledge them.

Jesus displayed supernatural authority and power. The Holy Spirit also has this power given from God. Nonetheless, I have never seen miracles such as those perfomed by Jesus e.g. raising someone from the dead.
