Christian Learning Center Forums During the video section Mart DeHaan interviewed people on the street in Tiberias. He asked them if they believed in miracles. He concluded: “I sensed in the residents of Tiberias that the ‘miracles’ they believed in would not have been as dramatic as someone turning water into wine or bringing a dead person back to life; yet according to the Gospel narratives, Jesus displayed an authority and power over nature that had no natural explanation.” What might be the basis for their personal convictions concerning miracles?

Maybe something from their past that caused suffering so they now see the miracles each person spoke of. The lady with childbirth is a miracle, yes a miraculous birth. The young lady with nature. The sun rising everyday is a miracle because it can be taken away at anytime. We are all blessed.

It takes much faith to believe the impossible. Many people are afraid to admit or hope for such a miracle. They explain away the true miracles with science. We always put in an explanation when there doesn’t need to be one.

The basis for their person convictions is belief or non-belief in Jesus and, to an extent, in the Old Testament miracles the Lord performed for his people. Most of the skeptics believed that life itself is a miracle – a nice outlook on life, but hardly a miracle as it within the natural occurrence of God’s creation. In limiting their belief in miracles to this type of answer, the person is actually professing a limited or non-belief in God and/or Jesus Christ.

People have a basis for personal convictions concerning miracles. The “Further Study” for this lesson explained that, “A miracle may be defined as God’s introduction of supernatural power that alters the laws of physics in order to endorse God’s messenger and advance His purposes bringing wonder to those who see it.” However, within the “Further Study” page there was multiple examples and definitions for a miracle. I think that a persons’ life experiences and personal relationship with Jesus Christ greatly impacts their personal convictions concerning miracles.

There is not a specific level miracles have to be on to be considered a “miracle”. Yes Jesus cause water to turn into wine and 2 fish to turn into a multitude of fish but just like sin no sin is greater than another. I think that they may see miracles as just miracles no matter the size or how dramatic they are. God is in control and Jesus was his son he had the knowledge and power to be able to preform the miracles no matter what size. I have seen so many miracles occur whether small or a little bigger. I think they may be more in tune with how to view miracles.
