Christian Learning Center Forums The lecturer states she “would contend that only a believer is able to truly love wisdom as God created us to love.” Do you agree or disagree? Explain.

I would agree that only a believer is able to truly love wisdom as God created us to love. Wisdom is more than just knowledge. Wisdom is taking that knowledge and applying it to life. For believers, we use God’s Word to gain knowledge and wisdom. From there, we are able to use it as a guide for us in learning and growing.

Yes, I agree with her statement. I think when you love as God has told us to, then we’ll love the wisdom and knowledge that God is teaching us.

Wisdom is defined as the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment. If the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD as Proverbs 9:10 says, then only the people who fear the LORD have access to gaining wisdom. I think God’s principles in His Word are so powerful that even unbelievers who follow them will find wisdom and be benefitted. However, Paul instructed the Corinthians “not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” The things of the Spirit are spiritually discerned, which the natural man cannot receive. He contrasted human wisdom of this age with the hidden wisdom of God, revealed to the mature, those who have received the Spirit “that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”

Yes, I agree with the lecturer on this statement. Psalm 111:10 states: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments: His praise endureth for ever.” God created us and gave us His Word as the foundation for what we believe. Unbelievers may have a lot of knowledge in different subjects, but they will not have God’s wisdom. We see the effects of the secular world’s wisdom in public schools today. The secular world does not have the Bible as a foundation, but the sinking sand of humanism.

The key is “as God created us to love” and yes, I agree with her statement when we specify loving wisdom “as God created us to love.” To love as God loves is to love even when we don’t understand, even when we may have been taught something differently all our life, to love even when it is difficult.
I think a lot of what we see from the secular world in their love of wisdom is that they are willing to love wisdom as long as it is from their point of view, something that fits their belief system, that is not contradictory. If that is the only way you are willing to accept wisdom are you a true lover of knowledge, wisdom and learning in the first place?
