Her visual illustrates that the Bible should be the foundation and seal of all knowledge that is taught in our Christian environment.

Dr. Black is illustrating the importance of where you start and end your instruction and instructional goals. It is of utmost value to start with Scripture and to end with Scripture. Just like our days, when we begin with a godly mindset, we are more likely to have it throughout the day. At the end of the day, we reflect and look for ways we grew or need to grow more. This is exactly what we are to do with out lesson planning and long term goal setting with our curriculum. When we plan our lessons, we need to seek God and what He wants us to pass on to His children through each lesson we plan.
I am currently student teaching in a public school and my first and only current question from this lesson is: How do I do this in the public school setting? How do I creatively apply what I am learning here to my lesson plans for the students I am working with (special education with one-to-one instruction)? I am taking this reminder to start and end (or sandwich) my lesson planning with God. Seek Him first, then listen to His directions. 1 John 2:3-6 states that we are to be in step with Him or we are not IN Him. To remain in God’s light, we as the teachers of children, need to set the example and practice starting and ending with our relationship with God and asking what He wants us to pass on through us.

The visual of the books in the middle of 2 Bibles is illustrating that we should start and end with Scripture. Any learning done outside of the Bible should be filtered through the Word of God.
-
This illustration shows the importance of God’s word in order for any teacher to be successful. We must incorporate His word.
-
She is illustrating the importance of using the Bible as the main book we should be using, as well as the importance of the textbook and notebooks while preparing our lessons with Biblical Integration in mind.

What are some techniques you have used, or currently use, to encourage a growth mindset in yourself?

One thing that I try to do throughout the school year is to make notes on my manual or in my lesson plans on teaching strategies that worked or did not work. That way the following year when I am teaching the same lesson I will be reminded and challenged to structure that particular lesson differently to better suit the learning objectives. The other technique I try to implement as a teacher is to set a goals for myself each year. This past year I felt that my course as a whole was average to below average learners, but I did not feel that I challenged those learners that were high achievers. This coming school year I want to make sure that I have lessons or independent activities to challenge those students who need the extra push or who can achieve at a higher level.

A growth mindset is part of walking with the Lord. I pray that I will be humble and realize I always have more to learn. I value a growth mindset because it allows me to put off the good and go towards God’s best in every sphere of my life, including teaching.

One thing I try to remember is that almost all skills and talents can be improved upon. Whether you have been doing something for years or just a few months, there is always more to learn and get better at. Teaching especially, is a field where students benefit from their teachers constantly challenging themselves to improve.

As a teacher and administrator, I understand that we’re constantly learning. Education changes often whether it’s curriculum or staff, this means we must grow with the changes. During these changes I try to always select professional development that will grow me in my faith, in my encouragement of others, and leading well. I also try to read books that will create growth in me as an educator.
To add to the techniques, I am currently listening to the Bible when driving to work and back home. This helps me to focus and use my time wisely in the car. I also regularly take notes at church as well as meeting with a life group. There are so many techniques that one can use daily to continue growing in all aspects of life.

To set goals. To ask the Lord to show me areas I need growth in my life.

Techniques and tools to help in developing biblically centered lesson plans.

In all honesty, I started taking this course only because I had to to get my ACSI certification. However, I do want to be growing daily in my relationship with God and how I can better integrate Bible truths into all of the subjects I teach. I want to help raise disciples for Jesus in my classroom.

I’m hoping to gain more ideas about how to integrate Biblical worldview in curriculum.
