Christian Learning Center Forums Explain, in your own words, Dr. Black’s visual of a book in the middle of two Bibles. What is she illustrating with this visual?

Dr. Black’s visual with a book placed between two Bibles illustrates that all aspects of education—curriculum, scope and sequence, and assessments—should be anchored in and guided by God’s Word. It demonstrates that teaching should start and end with Scripture, integrating biblical principles throughout the educational process.

Gods word is the center of everything we should be doing as educators.

What we teach our students our curriculum needs to be allied/in the Word of God. The Word of God is the covering and foundation.

Everything gets sandwiched between the Bible! Lessons, assessments, curriculum… it all should start and end being filtered through a Biblical lens.

Dr Black’s visual demonstrates that whatever we do we must always base it on our scripture. Especially in educational field we must include or combine scripture in our teaching methodology.

I am constantly looking for ways to improve. To grow in both the knowledge and grace of God. I take courses, attend workshops that my school provides and try and stay engaged as a lifelong learner.

There is always more to learn. Instead of thinking, “I don’t know how to do that”, I add a “Yet”, to it. “I don’t know how to do that yet”, is more of an open ended response implying that I have room to learn. I encourage students to do this as well. Teachers are learners, as well.

The reminder of just because I made a mistake, or messed up this time doesn’t mean that will happen every time. The reminder to keep trying and not give up. Also, the reminder that God has a plan and a purpose for me, and if I’m still here, then He’s not done with me yet.

I couldn’t be happier to have discovered the promotion of Carol Dweck’s book being used in this course. I discovered Mindset many years ago and immediately recognized I had become stuck in a fixed mindset. Seeing how much this faulty thinking limited me, I ran forward trying to tell everyone I could about this little book that would change your life. Presently, the primary techniques I use to encourage the growth mindset, is to keep Dweck’s principles on prominent display, both at home and in the classroom for encouragement and resiliency practice.

Continual growth and understanding in how to explain why we’re learning what we’re learning and explaining how to apply that as a believer.
