I didn’t know that he had a specific structure (5 parts) to reflect the structure of Moses’ previously established law.

I didn’t know about the neat structure of the Sermon, which incorporates 9 beatitudes, 2 illustrations of missional living, 1 thesis, 6 antitheses, 3 examples of piety, 3 examples of attitudes towards money, 3 examples of how to treat people, and 3 illustrations. To me, this organization is tacit evidence of the inspiration of Scripture.

That Matthew’s Gospel was written in a way that readers would grasp how Jesus taught with Authority.

I did not know that the Gospel of Matthew was written in 5 specific parts and that it had been compared to the 5 books of Moses.

I never considered them as the instructor phrased it, as the “ethical teachings of Jesus.” This way of marking these teachings creates within me a new expectation in reading/studying them–that apart from learning of the nature of the “upside down kingdom,” I may press into them to gain wisdom about how to treat with daily matters of living well with others.
