It is important to know who to live the Christian life. The teachings apply to those who are Christians.

So at this point in Jesus ministry, He is attracting large crowds of people from throughout the region. “Large crowds followed him wherever he went—people from Galilee, the Ten Towns, Jerusalem, from all over Judea, and from east of the Jordan River.” (Matt 4:25 NLT). People are coming to see this man who is doing great things, miracles and healings abound. He is likely walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee and walks up the mount to give this great sermon to all who were gathered to listen. Those in attendance were followers, as well as those interested in seeing what this “Prophet” could do for them. I believe this message is for whoever would hear His voice, and then they have e decision to make. Do I follow this teaching, this man who claims to be the Son of Man, or not? So does God reach out to only followers, or does God’s Word apply to all, and all who would respond.

In life, instructions are give to specific situations and/or people. We need to know to whom or what the instruction is meant to be enforced so that the end result is what was originally envisaged. The same applies to the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.

When you know who it is for, you can then apply it appropriately to your life
