Why is it important to understand who Jesus’ teachings in the Sermon on the Mount were meant to apply to?

It’s kinda a hard question to answer, but knowing who they were meant for is a good indicator of a persons heart. God means for those people who love Him to live in a prescribed way that is good for them both spiritually and physically and anger, hate, strife are bad things both spiritually and physically.

It is important, as a believer/follower to know what expectations are for you as you follow Christ.

I believe it is important because it shows us believers how we should act and how we should follow Jesus.

It is important to understand who Jesus was teaching, so that we know what applies to us. I believe that this sermon was meant to be for believers. I believe that if we live out the things Jesus talked about in this Sermon, we will see others come to Christ as well. We can not say that this is only for pastors, priests, etc because God was talking to a large group of people (not just religious leaders).

It is important to know what Jesus is saying and who He is saying it too, in order, to be a faithful follower of Christ.
