Merciful is to be compassionate and understanding of others unfortunate circumstances. It is to show love and kindness in practical ways. As opposed to just saying “go in peace,” it is to love others as yourself.

The guilty are pardoned by the aggrieved meaning that showing forgiveness and grace to those who don’t deserve it in addition to those who do. Mercy isn’t a judgement, it’s a way of life.
-
Merciful is a conscience internal choice to show compassion, kindness, and care for others – expecting nothing in return.
-
To be merciful is to be compelled by God’s love to engage those who are suffering in this world for their benefit. It is to care for others because of one’s mindfulness of God.
-
When we are merciful we love others as ourselves. We have grace and humility and compassion towards others. It is an action, something we can control.

No other motives than to glorify God in all we say and do (which is really hard). Seems as if we would need to do some serious introspection on a regular basis to maintain the pure in heart attitude. Do we have the love God and love your neighbor as yourself attitude. If not, do we repent and move forward?

I have a T-shirt that I wear (I work at a church so, I am allowed to wear it) that says TO GOD FROM IDOLS TO SERVE based on 1 Thessalonians 1:9 and I pretty much that sums it up for me. I do understand that so many things can become idols but, I believe that the minute we understand that something has taken over our heart above God we need to renounce it and turn from that thing that is idolized.

Being pure in heart means to be holy as God is holy. To be pure in heart means to attempt our best to achieve God’s standards.

Having a change of attitude and behaviors. Having a relationship with God because of your changed heart.
