Why is it important to understand what took place during the intertestamental period? How will this help shape your study of the New Testament?

It is important to help understand what was happening at that time, the culture, the geographical area, the relevance of people who lived there, what was the socioeconomic status of the region and era, also who lived during that time as it relates to the scriptures.

The intertestamental period is important to Christians today because we will increasingly be subjected to persecution and the target of those of this world as we get ever closer to the end times.

So that we can understand what was going on in Israel, the surrounding areas and how this affected Jewish thinking about the Torah and how this time period affected their view of Gentiles.
This will help me studying the New Testament because I can now understand the hatred the Jewish people felt for Gentiles.

Interpretation stood out for me because of my need to understand the meaning of scripture, especially the more difficult passages; so I can communicate better to those who would listen.

The question that stood out to me the most was the one on contemporary application. It stood out to me the most because as the author said “we need to know about the lives of the men and women in the bible, so that we can see how God works in specific situations. There is a way to draw upon God’s supernatural strength and power to deal with anything that I am going through or someone near to me.

I think that Historical background would be important in order to know the date and time and language and the culture that the New Testament was written in order to interpret it correctly. In order for me to be able study and understand it and to apply it to my everyday life and understand Jesus teachings and help others in understanding the New Testament better.

I believe the contemporary application stands out most for me. The story of Jesus is thousands of years old, and it goes back to the beginning of Genesis. It still relates to today’s times and today’s people.

Contemporary Application because the perplexity of the human mind, believes and culture. I like when Dr. Blomberg stated the meaning remains the same in the text even as the applications vary.
