Jesus was in total agreement with the Father about His mission to redeem and restore humanity into a right relationship with the godhead. He exemplified what He had taught the disciples in the Lord’s Prayer where He says to pray “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. Jesus is also fulfilling the teaching of the Old Testament that obedience to God is paramount to a right relationship with Him by being obedient to the will of the Father and praying “Thy will be done”. As the author and finisher of our faith, we are called to imitate Christ and take on His mind by being obedient to God’s will and declaring that His will be done even in the midst of the troubles of this life.

It shows that Jesus was completely obedient to the will of the Father even although its was of great distress to Him. We can learn that we have to be obedient even in the most difficult of circumstances God will sustain us.
