Romans features a language of justification more than any other New Testament book. It appears eight times in five verses.

Read Romans 3:21–5:21.

  1. In no more than one or two sentences, summarize the core idea of Paul’s message on justification in Romans.
  1. According to these passages, what is God trying to do? What does He want for us? What does He want from us?
  1. Why doesn’t God give up on humanity in their sin?
  1. What has God done in Christ to resolve the problem of sin and estrangement from Him?
  1. Does God justify us in Christ and the Spirit out of love and relational faithfulness, or from a need to serve a legal obligation?
