In | Workbook: Titles Ascribed to Jesus in Hebrews
Grab your Workbook Journal!
[Record your answers in the workbook provided at the beginning of this course.]
Read Hebrews 12:1-3.
Notice two descriptions of Jesus in this passage: “pioneer” and “perfecter.” Hebrews is also the only New Testament book to use the title of “High Priest” in reference to Jesus. This title appears ten times and represents a central theme of the author’s message. Some other titles given to Jesus in Hebrews, like “Son of God,” “Son of Man” and “Christ,” will be familiar to us from other books. Other titles may surprise us, as they are particular to this one letter.
- In the table in your workbook, write an “X” for each title or description of Jesus you think is found in Hebrews. Refer to the Hebrews 12:1-3 in YouVersion as needed.

- In books that are as theologically charged as Hebrews, the titles of Jesus alone can offer a good idea of what the book has to say about Him. Referencing some of the titles from the previous slides, briefly summarize their relationship to the overarching message of the book. How is Jesus presented in this book in regard to our salvation?
- Great Priest (10:21)
- High Priest (2:17, etc.)
- Forerunner (6:20)
- Minister (8:2)
- Pioneer/Founder (2:10; 12:2)
- Mediator (9:15; 12:24)
