This lesson brought into view the primary social institution in the ancient world—the family. Families were much more inclusive than nuclear families are in the West. In fact, we learned that along with relatives, the inclusion of adopted members was common. 

As you bring this module to a close, hasn’t your appreciation for God’s use of culture grown? Everyday institutions like family and patronage, and everyday issues like shame and purity were the vehicles for communicating some of the Bible’s most profound theology. 

In the next module we’ll review how the Bible has been interpreted through the ages and then return to the topic of culture and revelation. You’ll see how all the threads of Bible Journey are coming together as this course comes to a close.
