Read the Ugaritic and biblical passages below, with a focus on their similarities.

Ugaritic:

Let me tell you, Prince Ba’lu, let me repeat, Rider on the Clouds: Now, Ba’lu, you will kill your enemy; now you will annihilate your foe. You will take your eternal kingship, your dominion forever and ever.

(Ugaritic text KTU 1.2 IV 8, 29)

Biblical:

Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the Lord. Psalm 68:4 NIV

For surely your enemies, Lord, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered. Psalm 92:9 NIV

  1. What are some of the common themes and images in these passages, and how does the Psalmist employ a kind of biblical fusion to describe his God?
