While Christians accounted for only 35% of religious manuscripts in the first four centuries AD in Rome, they accounted for nearly 75% of all codices. On the other hand, less than 3% of ancient scrolls were Christian. The pie charts above help illustrate the role of Christians as champions of this new technology.
