My understanding of the psalms is that they are conversation between God and David. I want to understand them better not just glance over them

It was hard for me to put myself in the feelings of the speaker of Psalms. In short, I could not enjoy the beauty of the Book.

They are poetic scriptures of love and praise from God, about God , expressing His unconditional care for us.

A more basic understanding of law (the diagram was useful) and the point of poetry being glimpses of God’s ideals for a purposeful life. And the quote that I liked: “What has been written with imagination must be read with imagination.” Before I used to view Psalms are primarily laments…always complaining how someone wronged them. Now I can look at it with fresh eyes.

I discovered in this lecture that the Law of Moses is basically a good introduction to the desires of God, poetry however, can illustrate what it means to have the desires of God in the constant mentality of a human being. As a person who’s journeying through the Psalms I find that a lot of the amplified or Spirit filled life is that a lot of what David talks about as far as overcoming his struggles has to do with prayer. Imagining David’s struggles and trials while we pray through our own can give us spiritual strength.

Not really but rather reiinforced or strengthened my faith the Bible. The place of imagination for example is something I need to reflect on continually

A very exciting introduction. I cannot wait to get into the further lectures about reading the Psalms.

The concept of contrasting the goal of the law with the intent of Biblical poetry is new to me. I can see now how the Psalms can encourage us to a life that is closer to God than what the law requires. The Psalms encourage us to the higher standards Christ communicated.
