1 Chronicles – Nehemiah describes the fact that while Israel and Judah flaunted their disobedience in God’s face and persecuted His prophets, He kept His commitment to His covenant promises. Chronicles traces the Davidic kings through whom God would bring His Messiah. Although God exiled His people, Ezra and Nehemiah tell how He restored them to their land and life.

As usual, Dr, Stuart's treatment, though abbreviated, gives very important insights and angles to understand the whole book. A casual reader of the Bible may think that the Chronicles are an unnecessary repetition of the books of Samuel and Kings, but Dr. Stuart ably shows how they are different in historical context, in purpose and therefore in emphases and themes. The excursus into textual transmission and translation is also superb. Though it is concise, I consider its breadth and depth worthy of advanced level, instead of its intermediate rating. Definitely to be recommended.

A thoroughly enjoyable course which gives a lot of food for thought and appreciation for our Scriptures.

I liked the course.
-
A really good course. There is a wealth of information here that is directly applicable to a present-day Christian.

The lecture from Parchment to Books was rather dense with a number of undefined terms (e.g. hexpla). This seems strange since earlier there were rather thorough definitions of such terms as monarchy and theocracy. I would argue that most people don't need definitions of terms such as these but they do such terms as hexpla.

An excellent course!

It was very interesting and challenged my thinking.
-
Awesome module truly enjoyed this - thank you.
-
Especially enjoyed learning all about the Hebrew language.
-
This course has really helped me to see the connections during this important time in the history of God's chosen people. Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther make more sense now that I know the order in which they were written since they are not in chronological order in the scriptures.

I'm so thankful for all that I am learning in these courses! I appreciate the time and effort put into these.

A great course - so much to learn!

This course was a great history lesson for me. My knowledge of the Old Testament was enriched by this course. I had no knowledge of what Ezra or Nehemiah was about or their part in rebuilding of the temple. It has really helped me to better understand the history of the Israelites and has made the OT come more alive. Great course. Challenging as it includes a lot of history to remember but I found it very interesting and it made the reading lesson exciting!

Very good. I enjoyed this professor. He had a way of making it interesting by paraphrasing the story in a conversational, storytelling way.
